Going from a market, I saw a woman being mad over a taxi driver. The local traffic police officer was also in support of the woman, and the taxi driver was asked to be apologetic towards the woman. Later on when I went to the taxi driver who works with Sherwood Park taxi, to ask what had happened. He told me that the woman was very late for the flight and asked me to drive very fast to reach the airport. She was even asking him to break the traffic rules, which I didn’t obey. On this, she got mad at him and called the traffic police officer and gathered many other people to abuse him. At last, the traffic police officer also favored her and asked him to say sorry and pay the woman a fine for her ride. Interacting with the taxi driver more, he explained how they face these kinds of annoying things on a daily basis, such as:
- Treating taxi drivers as a servant: Many people do not sweetly greet them and start ordering on them like they are their servants. People forget that they are just doing their job like anyone else and they are not their attendants.
- Asking the drivers to break the law: Everyone wants to reach their destiny as quickly as they can. And with this need, their expectations from the driver go so high that they even ask them to break the rules and regulations. We need to understand that it is a ridiculous thing. If you get pulled over, then the driver will be held responsible, and you will get hurt.
- Bringing Food in the cab: People bringing food inside the taxi. Crumbs, stains and a strong smell of the food irritate the drivers. People don’t even ask for permission. How will you feel if someone comes to your office and does the same kind of thing? You will surely get irritated.
- Being way too drunk: The taxi driver told me that he hated it when people were way too drunk in their back seats. Sometimes, people are so drunk that they vomit in their car, fall asleep and are not able to function by themselves. They are even left unpaid by those people sometimes.
- Making out in the taxi: Sometimes, people start making out in the back seat of the taxi. No doubt, in the movies, it looks so fascinating. But in reality, it would be so awkward for the taxi driver. You should respect the taxi driver and his space, as they are not your driver.
These are some general problems faced by the taxi drivers on a daily basis. We shouldn’t forget that they are also human beings who are just doing their job. We should be polite and respectful towards them. We should maintain cleanliness in the car because it is their place of job.
